Maps

Overview

To support the operational needs of organisations all over the world, opCharts includes many types of maps or diagrams which you can make right in the GUI using objects you are managing as well as including placeholders for other things.  The set of features which have been added to the different mapping tools in opCharts provides one of the most comprehensive set of operational mapping systems you will find.

Base Types of Maps

Using opCharts Mapping features, you can create Geographical Maps, Network Diagrams, which can included an existing background diagram or image you might have, and Topological Diagrams which are semi-automatic, lots of the diagraming can be automated and you can fine tune or tweak and then save.

See more details about each type of base map here:

Dynamic Map Types

More recently, opCharts has been given some dynamic mapping capabilities, which makes the maps more automated.  The contents of these maps is based on a filter and then map is layed out automatically and you can tweak and save.  If new nodes are added to the network, or removed, they will be automatically added or removed from the maps.  This is essentially diagrams for documentation being maintained automatically.

More details here about dynamic maps.

Other Mapping Features

If you would like to display other metrics visually on the maps, for example wireless or optical signal strength, you could use the opCharts - Metric Links feature.

Custom Group Status

Closely related to dynamic maps is the custom group feature, this allows an icon on a map to represent an arbitrary set of nodes and summarises the state and status of those nodes in a single status panel.  This can be combined with any other map type and is a great way to summarise larger networks.

Upload Map Content

When you are using the Network Diagrams and you want to upload icons or background you can use the "Files" feature.
