Importing the OVA
Once you have downloaded the FirstWave NMIS Suite OVA from our website, you can proceed to import the image onto your Proxmox Virtual Environment hypervisor.
Open a web browser and point it to your Proxmox VE instance graphical user interface.
By default this is http://IP_ADDRESS_OF_PROXMOX_HYPERVISOR:8006.
Local directory has the correct content permissions
You need to ensure that the local directory/storage has the correct content permissions before proceeding with uploading/deploying the OVA.
Click on Datacenter in the left-hand panel, then Storage in the centre.
Click on ‘local’ then the Edit button.
In the Content dropdown, ensure that ‘Import’ is selected. You should also ensure that ‘Disk image’ is also selected, if not already.
Click OK.
Upload the OVA
Once this is done, click on the ‘local’ storage item on the left-hand panel, then click on Import.
On this screen click the Upload button.
A window will appear, in this screen click on the Select File button and locate the OVA downloaded locally. Then click on Upload.
Be patient - this may take some time.
Deploying the Virtual Machine
Now that the OVA has been imported into your Proxmox VE environment, we can create a virtual machine out of it.
Staying on the Import screen and with our OVA imported, click on the OVA then the Import button above it.
A window will appear that will provide information regarding the virtual machine options which are all pre-filled, unless you need to specifically change anything here you can continue to import.
NOTE: FirstWave virtual machines from July 2024 onwards include MongoDB 6.0, which require a setting to be changed on the virtual machine. When on the import screen, make sure to change the CPU Type to ‘host’ before importing. If you forget to do this, you can always do it after before powering on the virtual machine - click on Hardware then highlight the Processors item and click Edit, changing the type to host.
Launch the Virtual Machine
Once the virtual machine creation process has completed, it will be present on the left-hand panel.
Either right click on the virtual machine and then click "Start" or you can click on the virtual machine in the panel and then the "Start” button on the top right.
Once powered on, use our provided credentials to login. You can find this in the Install instructions on our website.
Tip: Once authenticated, our appliance ships with a Message of the Day (MOTD) which will provide you with the virtual machine's IP address, used to access the NMIS Suite Graphical User Interface (GUI). You can also find this by typing "ip a" into the console of the virtual machine.
